In contrast to his highly verbal debut, The Clearing (2021), Ellis says of Compline: “I’d like to say as little as possible about this album.” Each piece will be accompanied by an alt text description of the music.

The album was recorded in one take on solo piano in December 2017. The album documents a longform improvisation on a theme
developed with storyteller and composer James Harrison Monaco for their music-storytelling show Piano Tales.
